Answer: Introduction: The application of social media has been becoming an integral component of the modern workplace and the popularity of the same has been rising due to the development of the technology. It has been determined that social media degrades the productivity of the employees (O'Connor, Schmidt, and Drouin, 2016). Moreover, it has also been identified that social media results in issues associated with human relations. Also, use of social media in work place may also cause a threat on computer security as well. Therefore, careful consideration is needed to be placed on the integration of use of social media within the workplace. The following discussion shall focus on these three aspects that are associated with the integration of social media within the modern workplace.
The Use of Social Media in the Workplace: The rise in the usage of social media has been identified to be highly challenging for the organizations as the same has been rapidly altering the manner in which the enterprises communicate and operate (Aguenza, Al-Kassem, andSom, 2012). However, apart from it, the usage of social media within the workplace has also been identified to be resulting in a decline in the productivity of the workforce. As per the Reports of Team Lease World of Work, an average of about 2.35 hours is spent for accessing the social media within the workplace daily and nearly 13 per cent of the entire productivity is lost due to the indulgence in the social media (Business Today, 2016). The unrestricted utilization of social media within the workplace have been identified to have negative affect on the productivity of the workforce, as has been determined through a study that the human resources spend over 32 per cent of their time on the social media for the personal works (Business Today, 2016). When the employees engage themselves too much with the social media for personal usage, instead of using it for the organizational purposes such as communication and so on, then the same affects their work productivity, which is reflected on the overall performance of the organization.

In other instances, the use of social media may also result in enmity amongst the employees due to the postings that have been made by them that could comprise of racial slurs, sexual innuendos or discriminatory statements (El Ouirdi, et al., 2015). This eventually affects the efficiency of the team works or coordination amongst the team members working in any projects. Moreover, the unethical use of the social media for offensive purposes such as sending the employees and co-workers harassment messages may affect the working relations and cause tension amongst them.
Social media hacking has been becoming a very serious issue within the workplace. At several times, the individuals in the "Friend List" of the employees may actually be identified to be cyber criminals who utilise the social engineering techniques for exploiting the social media users and the network of their employers (Mills, 2014). Some of the organisations employ filtering or blocking systems that limits the use of social media within the workplace (McDonald and Thompson, 2016). However, at times, several employees, within the necessary knowledge of information technology, unblock the restricted access, thereby violating the corporate policies and the terms of employment, thereby lading to their termination (McDonaldand Thompson, 2016). However, it has also been identified that blocking the social media within the workplace eventually affects the workplace focus and productivity of the employees. Therefore, there lies an argument as to if social media should actually be allowed to be used by the employees within the workplace for securing the computer network of the organisation.
Conclusion: As per the discussion that has been presented above, it is evident that social media has the ability of degrading the productivity of the employee, which eventually is reflected in the overall performance of the organisation. However, there also exist a few more negative aspects of the integration of social media within the work culture that can have severe consequences on the overall work culture. Therefore, careful consideration is needed to be made while integrating social media within the workplace processes.
