Answer - Discussion: Racial and Ethnic Identities - Reflection
Constructionist approach is very significant concept in making the perception of the self, race and other related identities. The theory is based on the belief that the current understanding of the race, identities etc are just based on the time periods elapsed and the experiences occurred. Cumulative implications of such changes do shape the person as they are at present. Whether it is simple self reflection, an identity of self or race all do evolve from such conceptualization only. In this context myself, a white Caucasian and deaf minority group person identifies myself as an American and believes myself associated myself as a individual belonging to the community that has played a key role in construction of the Country in the historical timelines. However I will not attach any special privilege or status to my race or ethnicity, as the current identity matters are more complex and not static too. They do change continuously because of individual and community struggles and with changing environmental conditions. Hence it is something that continuously changes and hence it is not very simple to define or frame my identity with few simple words as well cannot limit it to a concrete and stable meaning and classification. Constructinistic approach has no much impact over my racial and ethnic identity for me, I do not add much value to it, however still in the community in general as a white it has some distinct recognition attached and there is never some special observation or focus looked at white when compared with other blacks or minorities (Matias, 2016). In any case, I don't believe this constructionist approach has given any benefit or difficulty to me in person; it is only a transient scenario and will change with time. However the limitations of the constructivist theory and approach are visible with the changing times, at national and international levels and with changing perspectives of human definitions, the constructivist approach is no more valid and is going to be limited (Bodie and Jones,2015).
