Aim and Objectives
The objective of the study is to provide awareness regarding Thalassemia disease and related aspects among adults, their families and communities they live in.
Implications of Thalassemia
The implications of Thalassemia can be seen around the globe as it is one of the major health issues. There are many complications that are present and include different chronic diseases, heart disease, endocrine problems, hepatocellular carcinoma, growth that is stunned, and other associated outcomes. However, the complications and incidents have been decreased in younger population due to transference of screened blood made possible by imaging methods and oral iron chelators (Pignatti & Gamberini, 2011).
Prevention of Thalassemia
Thalassemia is unpreventable in many cases due to its nature as is identified. However, there are greater efforts being made for prevention of Thalassemia to possible extent in some cases. This includes prenatal diagnosis, molecular diagnostics, carrier detections, and genetic counselling. There are two expensive methods that are available for prevention are Preconception and preimplantation diagnosis (Kan & Cao, 2013).

Victoria is one of the largest states and the report has shown that the number of patients of Thalassemia is higher. Therefore, emphasis has been laid on the services and possible treatments in Victoria (Crighton, Wood, Scarborough, Ho, & Bowden, 2016). There are different treatment aspects that are focused on Victoria for Thalassemia. This includes Pre-pregnancy testing. Role of Awareness in Thalassemia
It is necessary to promote awareness regarding Thalassemia as it helps communities to stay aware regarding symptoms, what help and how to receive related medical assistance. As a result, future complications associated with the disease can be reduced or prevented to the possible extent. In this case, awareness can lead towards a more sustained and healthy future of adults and their families (PHUGA, 2019).
There is number of organizations that are already focused on and are centric to Thalassemia disease and its interventions, preventions, treatments and related services. In this case, Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Australia (TASCA) is a nonprofit organization that is focused on raising public awareness regarding aspects that are discussed. It plays a greater role in spreading awareness and education related to disease among adults, foster their quality relationships and development of a better future (Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Australia, 2019). Besides this, Victorian Clinical Genetics Services (VCGS), that is also playing a vital role in Thalassemia disease awareness and related services (Murdoch Children's Research Institute, 2019).
Health Education
Health education plays a vital role in disease awareness, interventions and preventions. Funds are required for increased health education. Therefore, Marathon should be considered to raise funds for such purposes.
Marathon fundraising plays a great role in raising funds for a good cause. In 2017, 15 runners started a marathon to raise funds. The campaign had 2 months left while the team exceeded their goal and the funds raised were 75% more than their goal. The fund raised was $1,220 for educational purposes (Mighty Cause, 2019). Different health conditions and their treatments are made possible with the help of marathon fundraising as Saint Clair Vineyard marathon has helped in raising almost $299,999 for cancer treatment (VineYard Half, 2019).
Screening and Thalassemia
