Question: Select a nursing article and identify the methodology used in the article and why the author chose that methodology.
Answer: Methodology: The method which was used in this study was the cross-sectional study. The authors choose this study design in order to compare the diabetes self-care behavior and the control of disease which existed between the support group attendees and those who do not attend. The study design was quite relevant to this particular study because support groups for diabetes have been well set up in Taiwan being cooperated with hospitals as well as units of public health which are under the Bureau of Health Promotion guidelines. Additionally, it worth to note that every group has a specific facilitator and for the groups based on hospitals there is a certified educator and in the group based on communities, there is a nursefrom the public health sector. As well, the other important aspect for the author selecting this study design is that individuals having blood sugar control which has been established as good and have the will to support sufferers of diabetes are welcomed to be supporters of the members of the groups.
For the process of the sample selection, the selection was based on the support groups in Taiwan, which currently are 483. However, the author limited to 423 support groups established for the last two years and their operational activities are working well. There I regard to this the author settled for the use of Stratified random sampling technique for this particular study. In order to complete the questionnaire for the study, the author used convenience sampling. The sampling techniques were quite relevant to this study since it enabled the author to capture the affected population by diabetes in Taiwan and it provided the whole presentation of the population.
