Introduction

The following report is about the assessment that was conducted on a middle-aged adult, Gina, who is 41 years old and has five children. The client has been experiencing several issues associated with their living condition and has been attempting to improve the same for herself as well as for her children.

In the following report, the various strengths and weakness of the client shall be explored. Furthermore, the kind of person the client is and the measures that can be taken for overcoming the challenges shall be explored as well. Based on the same, suitable recommendations shall be provided to the client.

Application of Person-in-Environment Approach

The information regarding the client can be classified with the help of Biopsychosocial person-in-environment approach. Biopsychosocial approach in a systematic manner considers the biological, psychological and social factors as well as their complex interactions for understanding the health, health care delivery and illness (Thomas & Thurston, 2016). Biological, psychological and social factors are known to be existing in a continuum manner. With respect to the case of the current client, the biopsychosocial approach can be applied as follows.

Based on the evaluation that has been conducted using the biopsychosocial approach, the different biological, psychological and social factors that are associated with the client has been identified. These factors shall be further analyzed to gain a better perspective regarding the client, so that further processes can be proceeded with.

Strengths and Challenges

Based on the evaluation of the factors that have been identified through the biopsychosocial approach, the major strengths and weaknesses of the client have been determined. The major strengths of the client include the following.

Strengths:

• Good health condition
• Determination to be a good parent
• Take good care of the children
• Interested in singing and participation in the church's choir
• Interest in cooking and wants to find a job related to it

Challenges:

• Stress
• Gets angry at children and yells at them
• Smokes
• Unstable in maintaining any job
• Addiction to her phone and social media
• Lack of proper educational qualifications
• Does not socialize with new individuals much
• Managing 5 children

Upon assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the client, it is evident that majority of the strengths and challenges are quite consistent with that of an adult in their mid-life. The client is required to manage 5 children on her own and with her youngest child always suffering from health disorder, it adds to her stress. The adults during this phase suffer from several mid-life crises that affect their judging capacity, thereby influencing their concentration span (Lachman, Teshale, & Agrigoroaei, 2015). Furthermore, these adults tend to become more resilient and therefore, it impacts their personal, social and work life as well (Smith & Hayslip Jr, 2012). These could be the reason as to why the client is unable to focus on her job or maintaining a steady job. Moreover, the stress from the personal life further adds to her crisis that the client has been experiencing in her mid-life adulthood.

Applying a Human Development Theory

There are various human development theories associated with the human psychology that aids in understanding the challenges that are experienced by an individual. As per the Erikson's Psychosocial development of human, the adults within the age range of 40-50 years, during which they undergo the stage of generativity against stagnation. Generativity implies the mark that an individual, leaves in the world, through their works and contributions. They develop the need for creating or nurturing those things that would outlast them. They attempt to be more productive at work, become involved in the community activities and raise the children well (Svetina, 2014). With respect to the case of the client, the individual is experiencing a combination of both generativity as well as stagnation. The client is exhibiting generativity through active participation in the church's choir as well as attempting to raise the children well. However, as the client has failed to maintain any stable job position, therefore, it can be stated that she has been exhibiting stagnancy as she is not contributing positively through her productivity. Therefore, the client is required to improve her contribution through productivity by maintaining one stable job role.

Sociocultural Theory

Applicating of an appropriate sociocultural theory would allow gaining a better understanding regarding the challenges that are being experienced by the client. One of the effective theories that is relevant to the current case is culturalism. Culturalism is the central significance of the culture as this organizes the force required for human affairs (Storey, 2018). As per the theory, the culture that an individual is associated with molds the views that one has regarding the world and the surrounding environment. With respect to the current case of Gina, the client has been subjected to psychological abuse as a child as her father used belt to beat her siblings whenever he was angry. Furthermore, she had experienced similar situation, when her boyfriend and husband used to physically abuse her. Due to the stress in her life, she inevitably ends up yelling at her children and she can visualize that she is becoming a lot like her father. However, she intends to overcome the same to become a better mother for her child, which is one of her positive qualities.

Systemic Factors

The client has belonged to an abusive family where the father used to beat her brothers with belt whenever he got angry at them. Similar aspect has followed her during her later stages of life, whereby, her boyfriend and husband had subjected her to physical abuse and therefore, she had to leave them so that she can have a better life.

The client has been subjected to sexism factor as a mechanism of oppression, as the same can be identified from the fact that she was abused in her relationship. Furthermore, the father of her youngest child is also in jail which reflects that she is inevitably drawn to oppressive men due to the psychological abuse that she had suffered from during her childhood.

Identify a Target Area for Change

Based on the evaluation of the client that has been conducted, it is evident that the client is required to improve her concentration and focus so that she can perform better in her occupation. Furthermore, as the client has interest and skills in the area of cooking, therefore, she should attempt towards applying for a job role requiring a chef or a chef assistant so that she can develop herself further in that area.
