Answer - SIGNIFICANCE OF HANDWASHING

INTRODUCTION

Hand hygiene is considered as the most important thing to control infections. With the increase in diseases and illness among society, preventions are done to avoid these harmful infections. One of the main steps taken is hand hygiene. It is the easy and cheap way to reduce the speed of microbial activities. There are some scientific proofs which help us to study that only hand hygiene is responsible for transfer of microbes.

PROCEDURE 1:

We get a plate of nutrient agar medium and divide the agar into four equal quadrate. Label the first quadrate of the plate "before". It is the first quadrate in which the Person 1 removes the gloves and start pressing its fingertips in the nutrient agar medium. Finger indicates the inoculation of the plate which helps us to identify the finger of participant. Now the Person 1 wear gloves and start pressing its fingertips in the second quadrate and label it as "glove". Now the Person 1shake hands with the patient so that the fingertips of patient touches the fingertips of the Person1. Then the Person 1 inoculates the third quadrate with the finger tips and labels it as "transient". Then the Person1 sanitize its hands and let it dry first and then gently press the finger tips in the last quadrate labels it as "sanitize". This plate is now incubate for 24-28 hrs at 37 degree temperature and carry out with gram strain.

RESULT:

There is growth of microbes on "before" quadrate plate , transient quadrate plate and on "sanitize" plate but do not grow on the "golev1" quadrant plate because microbes are present everywhere. That is why when the person wears the glove microbes do not grow as it was already in sterilized form. And in rest all the cases microbes were present.

PROCEDURE 2:

We get 2 plates of nutrient agar medium. On the first plate we make 3 equal sections. In the first section only washed hand is inoculate on the medium and label it as "washing". In the second section hand washed with the soap is inoculate on the medium and label it as "hand soap washing". And in the third section the hand washed by antiseptic is inoculate on the medium and label it as "antiseptic". Now take the second pate and and use a sterile in the antiseptic. Place a paper disc of antiseptic in the centre and label this plate as antiseptic evaluation. Now incubate both the plates for 24-48 hrs at 37degree temperature and carry out for gram strain.

RESULT:

On the first nutrient plate there is a large growth of microbes on washing plate as compared to other two because only washing removes a small amount of microbes. In hand soap washing there are some microbes because some microbes remain even after washing with soap as it is also not a proper way to sterilize. There are no microbes in the antiseptic washing section as all the microbes are destroyed using antiseptic.

PROCEDURE 3:

There are 4 person wearing gloves. Person 1 use the UV lotion and rub the hands so that the lotion spread on the gloves. Now Person 1 shake hands with Person 2, then Person 2 shake hands with the Person 3, then Person 3 shake hands with Person 4. Then they wear UV goggles and place their hands under UV light.

RESULT:

Person 1 has more UV lotion as it was the first to put it on its hand. The Person 2 has less amount of UV lotion from the first one because when they shake hands some amount of UV lotion sticks to the second one. Person 3 has less amount of UV lotion from second one because the second one already had less amount of UV lotion and when it shake hand from second one it gets less amount from the second one. And the last Person 4 has a very less amount as the third one has a less amount of UV lotion.

Methods of hand washing

Remove the jeweler and wash the hands under running water with the soap. Close the tap with wrist or elbow and dry the hands using paper towels. Use antiseptic, rub your hands, and let it dry on its own. The antiseptic kills the microbes and stop their growth which may limit the bacteria. Hands are normally contaminated due to direct contact with the patients, so hands should be sterilized time to time to avoid contamination. Nowadays gloves are used to avoid contamination. Still, after wearing the gloves , our hands are in contact with the microbes , so hand hygiene is still necessary using the gloves or not. For proper washing of the hands, 1-2 minutes are required. While working in laboratories we can take 3 ml of alcohol to rub on hands and let it dry because this kills the microbes present in our hands. Increasing the importance by infection control, changing the standard of view, by observing statistics reactions, these are some important actions which are needed to be taking cared by health centers, etc. This helps in the prevention of infections and provides the proper hygienic environment.
