Answer - During the completion of the deep water hydro simulation project, I together with my team encountered a number of ethical issues. Just like other managers and companies in the real world, we were forced to gauge our safety while were going deep as well as making trade-offs between long and short term gains from the simulation. The need to move into deeper waters typically confronted our team with technical and physical challenges. Other concerns that we were to grapple with on an occasional basis include balancing between social needs and environmental impact that the project will instigate. These challenges include pipeline design, installation, repair, and reliability of new production systems; the use of the new mooring systems, paraffin control, hydrates etc. There was a possibility that the tools and equipments for deep water simulation could malfunction, subjecting the team to security risks. Therefore, personally I was left to make tradeoff between my security, the security of other members and completion of the project. However, in the end, we had to continue with the project against the security odds. Regarding environmental concerns, this is due to a possibility of oil or gas spills to the environment during the simulation process, thus creating environmental disaster. We had fear that if the oil happened to spill while in the process, then we would be blamed for whatever that could happen to the environment. Moreover, the environmental disaster that could have been created had a potential of damaging the economy. This means that we had to be extra vigilant regarding any possible eventualities and ensuring that there are no gas or oil leaks along the way while we were on work. Consequently, this caused delay to our work on a significant level.
