The dog also knew that it was not safe to visit foreign in such dreadful cold. As a result, the dog was depressed due to the terrific cold. When the man forgot to build a fire to melt out, it showed its high level of ignorance. The instinct of the dog demonstrated the actual tale to the man based on his judgement.

Thirdly, the weather was determined to be the biggest enemy in the story and to the man. According to the man, the temperature below fifty degrees below freezing point was not an issue. However, the constant decrease of the temperature creates a complicated situation for the man to move ahead (Kam, 2016). The action of the man made the setting a companion and adversary for the character of the story. Thus, the ignorance of the man is regarded as the thing that was against him in the story. It can be seen that the man was wrong as in the end, the man died due to such fearful cold. It indicates that within the sub-freezing temperature and hostile environment of Yukon, the man became the victim to the challenging and merciless power of nature.
