Do you think that white-collar crime is a reflection of desirable behavior
Do you think that white-collar crime is a reflection of less than desirable behavior in our society such as envy, greed, high expectations, strain for success, and unequal distribution of wealth? Or is white-collar crime a product of the unique factors posited by Sutherland and other white-collar theorists who challenged mainstream criminological theories?

I agree and support the views of Edwin Sutherland and other white collar theorists, who consider white collar crime as a serious crime. According to Sutherland, white collar crime is defined as the crime which is being committed by upper socioeconomic and respectable class of people with respect to his/her business or occupation. He explained that the rich people misuse their respective position in job to gain more power and wealth (Lilly, Cullen & Ball 2018). This form of crime committed is rarely updated in the official criminal records, which further encouraged them to commit more such crime. The reason behind the distortion in official criminal record is due to high political and financial reach of the offenders which make them escape arrest. However, if they get arrested then these offenders are treated respectfully by the officials of justice system. Like Sutherland, another white collar criminologist Gilbert Geis also assume white collar crime as a law violating crime. According these criminologist, the white collar crime violates the administrative law but the offenders never backed by state sanctioned penalties. Sutherland also argued that there exist some industries which are highly rooted in illegal activities at its corporate level. Additionally, there are certain industries which possess cultural norms and regulation that favors the violation of law and allows free flow of crime (Brickey and Taub, 2017).
Of note, the prime reasons behind increased rate of such crimes are: i) offenders are often recruited by the juvenile delinquents, ii) the junior officer gets order from senior officer to do unethical or illegal practices, and iii) people learn specific techniques of law violation from others and find it most convenient way to achieve success (Payne 2016).
