The orange of the sky touched the horizon,

Like the blush on a maiden’s cheeks

At the caress of her lover.

The winding castle gazed back

At itself in the water

Staring ominously into the emptiness

Of the fast-approaching dusk.

“’Tis the Duke,” they said,

“He’s come to take his home.”

The gloom of the castle

And the haziness of the mist

The Lords pleaded and requested

And insisted him to stay,

But his determination, they could not sway.

And the castle still stands,

In the dusk, forlorn,

Kissed only by the cold waves

Like a young lover’s scorn.

The trumpets are silent again,

And the windows lay open

Staring down at the sea below

Waiting to crumble and wither

Under the weight of time,

To become one again with Mother Nature

Just as when two lovers reunite.
