Critical thinking can be defined as a specific mental condition in which perception based on intelligence, analyzing and evaluating the information through observation, communication and experience which would lead one to take proper action. Critical thinking is used in the nursing profession to solve the problems of the patient. It also helps to make a decision that would lead to efficient and skilful nursing (Carte, Creedy&Sidebotham, 2015).

Critical thinking is based on different techniques. Here in the report four different situations are provided, considering critical thinking those situations will be analyzed. Following are the cases:

Q. Juan is a first-year nursing student. His clinical rotation is at a skilled nursing facility (SNF). He arrives at the unit at 0700 for the start of the day shift. After hearing the shift change report, he prepares to give his client a bedbath per unit policy.

Solution: Juan is a first-year nursing student. He is in a skilled nursing facility. He arrived at 7 in the morning and as he heard about shift change he gave bed bath to his patient. SNF nurses are professionals and trained and they are to provide this kind of facility. Hence, he applied his intuition and gave the first and primary facility to his patient (Carter, Creedy&Sidebotham, 2016).

Q. Lily is teaching her patient, Mr. Johannsen, about the medication he will be taking when he is discharged from the hospital. When Lily reviews the list with him, he says, "That's too many medications. It's too confusing." Lily devises a schedule and information sheet about the medicines that she gives to her client. She reviews the medications and their schedules with Mr. Johannsen and his wife before discharge.

Solution: Lily was teaching her patient Mr. Johannsen about the medication after discharge. The patient was confused with the list and schedule. Hence, Lily applied critical thinking and used problem-solving techniques and prepared a chart for the patient. Such that it will be easy for him (Zhang et al., 2017).

Q. Erin is caring for a young man who has had orthopedic surgery after a skiing accident. She is unable to hear his blood pressure when she attempts to take his vital signs. He is alert and able to converse with her. Since she is unable to hear the blood pressure, she records "0" in the client record.

Solution: Erin was taking care of a young man. She was unable to hear his blood pressure therefore, she marked "0" in the patient's record. Decision making is important for the case of critical thinking. As she was unable to hear the blood pressure of her patient who had orthopedic surgery, she decided to mark it "0" which is safe rather than to write any random figure. As that would lead to the wrong diagnosis of the patient (Cazzell& Anderson, 2016).

Q. As you are walking down the hall on the hospital unit, you hear a patient call out, "Nurse!" When you enter the room, you notice that the bedside is crowded with equipment.

Solution: The last case asks to imagine a situation where one is walking down the hall and hears a patient crying out for help. When reached to the patient it can be seen that the patient was crowded with equipment. Now the situation is the nurse is inexperienced and lacks clinical experience and in that case, the nurse assures the patient that he or she will get help for the patient. This kind of situation is generally based on intuition and quick thinking. Without proper experience, one must not apply the experimental method of critical thinking in this case, which may lead to risk for the patient's life (Zuriguel Perez et al., 2015).

Hence, the above cases have well-defined cases of critical thinking in the nursing profession.
