Title of Journal Paper: Effects of mixing procedures on the properties of polymer modified bitumen
Author(s): Mohan, S.A., Woldekidan, M.F. and Qiu, J.
Journal / Conference: Proceedings of the international conferences on the bearing capacity of roads, railways and airfields
Pages: 687-698
Section 1. Abstract / Introduction
The objective of the article was to acquire insight regarding the mixing procedure for two polymers in the form of pellets. The paper has presented details regarding the variables that could impact the process of polymer pellet amalgamation. As the road networks are currently experiencing an ever-increasing traffic volume as well as axle loads, therefore, there is the necessity for long performing pavements and the same has been increasing. Hence the current research has been performed to determine the manner in which the interaction between the bitumen polymer interact.
Section 2: Methodology
In the research, two kinds of polymer pellets, Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) and Styrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS) have been utilised for modifying a 70/100 pen grade bitumen. Florescence microscopy have been utilised for evaluating the morphology study and the conventional binder test methods.

Section 3: Results and Conclusions
The results of the study have demonstrated that the mixing speed is crucial to determine the extent of the dispersion of the polymer. Furthermore, it has also been determined that the mixing time has limited impact on the dispersion due to the range of times that has been used in the current study.

Title of Journal Paper: Performance of polymer modified bitumen for flexible pavements
Author(s): Pareek, A., Gupta, T. and Sharma, R.K.
Journal / Conference: International journal of structural and civil engineering research
Pages: 77-86
Section 1. Abstract / Introduction
The objective was to present the experimental study that was conducted on the conventional polymer modified binder and traditional bitumen. The properties of the bitumen mixes using the polymer modified bitumen and conventional bitumen have also been compared in the study. the rationale of the study was to illustrate that the rutting resistance, resilient modulus and the indirect tensile strength of the bituminous concrete mix with the help of the polymer modified bitumen can be enhanced.
Section 2: Methodology
In the research, an experimental study was conducted using the conventional bitumen 60/70 and a polymer modified bitumen, PMB-70. The properties of the PMB-70 mixes were compared with the different bitumen mixes using the 60/70 bitumen. The test specimens of the study were prepared using 4.5, 5.0 and 5.5% content of binder that was added by weight of aggregates.
Section 3: Results and Conclusions
From the experimental studies, the results presented that the polymer modified bitumen performs better than the conventional bitumen. It was also determined that the polymer modified bitumen had high elastic recovery and the rutting resistance was also significantly higher. Furthermore, it was also determined that the indirect tensile strength was also higher with respect to the polymer modified bitumen.

Title of Journal Paper: Polymer modified bitumen asphalt, a proposed solution for UAE pavement deterioration
Author(s): Sabouni, R. And Al-Ghazali, A.
Journal / Conference: Construction Materials and Structures
Pages: 620-628
Section 1. Abstract / Introduction
The objective of the paper is the conduct a comparison between the properties of typical asphalt mix as well as different PMB-SBS mixes. The rationale or the importance of the research study is that the same is aimed towards producing results that would aid in producing long lasting pavements that have better operational as well as maintenance efficacy. This is fundamentally aimed towards fixing the common asphalt pavement problems that prevails in the UAE.
Section 2: Methodology
A field examination was conducted to understand the major mechanisms of the pavement deterioration that exists in the UAE roads, especially in the congested areas of the UAE. Six major issues were determined through the field experiment and based on the results of the same, investigations were conducted for evaluating the efficiency of the usage of SBS polymer modified bitumen asphalt for enhancing the issues associated with bitumen. Further experiments were conducted on the standard as well as polymer modified asphalts.
Section 3: Results and Conclusions
The results of the studies presented that the use of SBS polymer modified bitumen should be used in the heavily traffic areas of the UAE as the same would aid in reducing the pavement problems.

Title of Journal Paper: Use of modified bitumen in highway construction
Author(s): Singhal, M., Yadav, Y., Mandal, R., Singhal, M., Yadav, Y. and Mandal, R.
Journal / Conference: International Journal
Pages: 376-382
Section 1. Abstract / Introduction
The objective of the current study is to use modified bitumen with the help of plastic wastes for the purpose of road constructions. It has become significant to develop alternatives that would aid in providing eco-friendly and economical highway construction processes using the modifiers in bitumen. The rationale or the significance of the study is that through the development of effective bitumen mix, composites can be developed that would have better stability, binding property, density as well as water resistance.

Section 2: Methodology
A thorough review of the literatures have been conducted so as to gain sufficient knowledge for achieving the objectives. The researchers collected plastic wastes and the same were shredded into smaller pieces and the same was mixed with the bitumen. Laboratory tests were performed and the same were compared with the bitumen with the plastic mix.
Section 3: Results and Conclusions
It was determined that the coating done by the plastics significantly reduced the absorption of the moisture, porosity as well as improved the soundness. The polymer coated bitumen mix formed better material for the flexible pavement construction. Furthermore, the bitumen mix aggregate that is polymer coated has been identified to be better material for the flexible pavement constructions.

Title of Journal Paper: Polymer Modified Bitumen
Author(s): Thakre, N., Mangrulkar, D., Janbandhu, M. and Saxena, J.
Journal / Conference: IOSR Journal of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (IOSR-JMCE)
Pages: 120-128
Section 1. Abstract / Introduction
The objective of the current research study is to determine the suitable modified bituminous combination that would be beneficial in maintaining the highway constructions, with respect to the better and longer lasting roads as well as the savings associated with the total road life expenses. The rationale of the study is based on the determination of suitable alternative for highway road care and cost efficiency with respect to its maintenance.
Section 2: Methodology
The methodology that was employed in the research study was based on the testing of bitumen at varying concentration of the mix, starting from the plain bitumen. Different kinds of tests were applied on the mixtures to determine the suitability of the mix. The ductility of the mix was also determined at varying factors.
Section 3: Results and Conclusions
From the research study, it was determined that the physical properties of the plain bitumen increase with the modification of the crumb rubber and EVA polymers. This would make the pavements more resistant to fatigue, rutting, temperature susceptibility, and thermal cracking.
