Answer - Impact of Technology on the work of Oman people: Humans versus Technology
Introduction
Technology is regarded as one of the most important and valuable advancement for mankind. It has changed the level of thinking and doing operations in a much faster and affordable way. As a result, in this era of advanced technology, it is possible to get useful resources, facilities, and luxuries at the fingertips. With the inclusion of technology in our day-to-day life, there has been a significant improvement in lifestyles such as communication, entertainment, health, housing, education, and transportation (Al-Suqri 2015). The Sultanate of Oman is also incorporating technological development in accordance with the expectation of the global market. However, it evident that technology has both positive and negative impacts the human life.
The present research has been conducted for understanding the pros and cons of technological innovations on the people of Oman. Apart from this, a questionnaire interview is also conducted on the local people of Oman of different age groups to identify their perspectives.
Literature Review
Humans have developed technologies for making their lives easier. It is the end result of our curiosity, problem-solving and creativity techniques. In the present time, technology is involved everywhere such as in relation with food, water, education, electricity, medical, communication, travel, business, marketing, banks, and data storage. The Internet is one of the important parts of modern day technology which is accessible by anyone at any time. Most of the technological devices require the internet to operate them.
Oil revenue continues to be the major portion of the Oman economy. However, the oil price on the international level continues to fluctuate, without any certainty. Thus, information technology is considered as the next major alternative for the country's economy, as globalization is dominating the entire world. Oman is also no longer behind to adapt to this fast-changing world by becoming technologically ahead. The economic vision 2020 of the country presently undergoing a vast transition by adopting information technology in it. The e-government initiative Oman was effective since 2003 to serve its digital transformation in both the infrastructure and ICT industry (Sarrayrih, and Sriram 2015). This change has helped the nation in creating better public services as well as improving human capital. The government is promoting e-services and digital lifestyle among its population. The Oman employees are provided with specialized training to develop their technical skills and abilities. In this context, subjects related to information technology are also introduced in government and private colleges. Oman government aims to create electronic projects which can be established on a global scale. For most of the Omani oil and gas companies, technology has given an opportunity to complete the daily activities with low cost and minimum manpower. Based on the latest report of Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman, there are 201-2299 internet subscribers in the country, in which 50% belongs to household connections (Sarrayrih et al 2015). The Oman Broadband Company (OBC) aims to cover almost 85% of Muscat by 2020 (Sarrayrih et al 2015).

According to Al Salmi, and Hasnan, (2016), technological development imparts positive as well as negative consequences on professional work. Technology enables online meetings, video conferencing, chats which are essential in conducting business with international companies. It not only reduces time, cost, and work but also helps in improving the product quality. These aspects are essential to maintain the quality, and speed of performance and maintain a competitive edge. On the contrary, technology has some adverse effects on human life. For instance, the emergence of artificial intelligence makes people sluggish both mentally and physically. Technological improvements make people dependent on each and every task. Moreover, technology also replaces manpower in most of the industrial jobs, as they can work maximum perfection, minimum speed, and cost. Thus, it indirectly creates the situation of unemployment among the population.
Methodology - Results Analysis
The objective of the research is to find out the influence of technological innovations on the people of Oman. The paper aims to identify the following aspects:
- Use of technology in different fields
- The positive influence of technology
- The negative impact of technology
Collecting information is the prime objective in research work, as it represents the associated ideology and the motivation behind it. In this study, the information is collected by using the approach questionnaire, where a group of 10 respondents is interviewed based on selected 10 questions.

The table provides overall information about the demographics of the 10 respondents. Among these respondents 5 are male and the remaining five are female. In terms of age, 6 participants belong to the age group of 18 to 25 years, and 4 are within 26 to 35 years. Further, the table also reveals that most of the participants are from urban locations, which is 7, while 3 are from rural locations.

The above table reflects the dependence of the Oman people on technology, with respect to bank transactions, bill payments, shopping, education, and communication. Here, the first question shows eight respondents are dependent on technology for bank transactions, billing, and shopping, while the remaining two are not digitally updated. In the second question, nine respondents are in favor, which reflects that technology plays a major part in the education system. Similarly, the third question also proves that the majority of participants, which is 9, are dependent on technology for communication.

This table has revealed the dependence of human beings on technology. 8 respondents out of 10 are using more than one technological devices every day. Moreover, 9 respondents have admitted that they have been addicted to digital innovation.

The above table illustrates the positive impact of technology on the people of Oman. Based on the first question, 7 participants believe that using technology in their day-to-day activities have made their lifestyle simpler and easier. On the other hand, the remaining 3 participants do not feel any change in life with technology. In the second question, 7 people strongly agree that technology is the major contributor to societal development. While two people choose the "agree" option to address their viewpoint. Besides them, only one participant is disagreeing with the benefit of technology on Oman society.

This table evaluates the negative aspects as a student with technology on society. Based on the questionnaire interview report, 3 respondents strongly agree with the fact that technology reduces their critical thinking ability, while 4 respondents choose the "agree" option for the statement. On the other hand, 2 respondents disagreed, and 1 respondent very agreed with the statement.
Similarly, 4 respondents choose "very agree" and 4 respondents prefer "agree" towards the statement that technology negatively influences youth. However, the remaining two people disagree with this statement. Table 6

This table showed a mixed reaction of the Oman people based on their opinion. 6 respondents believe that technology might replace their job in the future, while 4 respondents disagreed with the statement.
Conclusion
Based on the survey report and literature review, it can be concluded that despite numerous benefits, technology has some adverse effect on society. The use of more than one digital device by most of the participants, clearly indicates that society is becoming fully dependent on technology for each of its activities. Based on the majority opinion, technology is a great threat to future job opportunities in Oman, especially to manual jobs. Form the research study, it can be inferred that youth should be kept away from social media platform and should be used only for professional and business related work.
